Darling Park Winery Profile: The Peninsula’s Hidden Delight

It’s not often that you find the words “homely” and “quaint” to be associated with the tourist-brimming wineries of Mornington Peninsula, but the Darling Park Vineyard is one stand out exception. From the moment you arrive the calming atmosphere is evident, and something you’ll be appreciative of once you’ve had a few tipples to get you equally relaxed.

How It All Began: The History Behind Darling Park

John and Delys Sargeant were the original masterminds behind this hidden gem, planting their first vines back in 1988.

In 2005 Winemaker Judy Gifford came on board and has been bringing her own style to the wines ever since. Judy has had six vintages around the world, in France, California and New Zealand, and now dedicates her passion and experience to continue the good work the Sargeants began.

Drink & Be Merry: Darling Park’s Best Wines

Don’t let the boutique nature of Darling Park Vineyard fool you though; their wine is nothing short of world class. The Peninsula is famous for cool climate Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs, and Darling Park’s holds strong footing amongst the best of them.

Their new single vineyard 2013 vintage has recently started to appear on the cellar door and is a real favourite with wine experts and casual quaffers alike. A Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and delicate Shiraz are Wine Compass favourites

And don’t even get us started on the Ice Viognier, their very own delight of a dessert wine. Those visiting on the weekend are also in for an extra treat, thanks to their samplings of Bass & Flinders Spirits.
