Willow Creek Vineyard Profile: Winery Heaven
There’s a certain magic to Willow Creek Vineyard, one that allows you to fall in love before you even take your first sip of wine. That’s because long before you’ve got a glass in your hand you’ll have the glorious estate in your sights, as you make your way down the long driveway flanked with sweeping rows of vines to one side.
It’s this initial view that really sets you up for the experience you’re about to have, which includes some of the best tasting wines in Mornington Peninsula or even Australia. All in all, it’s safe to say Willow Creek Vineyard is a rare delight for all of the senses.

How It All Began: The History of One of the Mornington’s Oldest Vineyards
It’s hard to imagine this idyllic setting as anything but the vineyard that it is today, especially as a place where cattle used to roam. But that’s exactly how it all began more than 120 years ago, in 1876 when it was first settled as a mixed farm.
Thankfully, when the families of Ball, Knowles and Harris acquired the property in 1988, they saw its full potential and began working to achieve the Willow Creek Vineyard vineyard. More than 20 years on it stands as one of the oldest vineyards of the Mornington Peninsula, watched over carefully by a passionate team. This includes renowned winemaker Geraldine McFaul (who joined in 2008) and viticulturist Robbie O’Leary (who came around twenty years ago to “fix some things for a couple of weeks”, and hasn’t left since).

Drink & Be Merry: Treat Yourself To Premium Grade Wine
The beauty of Willow Creek Vineyard doesn’t just stop in your surroundings, though that certainly adds a lot to the experience. Geraldine and her team go the extra mile in creating truly magnificent tipples, of a premium grade that not many others can compete with.
Through their exceptional cellar door experience, Karina, Ian and Peter will guide you through sampling some of their most famous whites and reds, with a private room option for those in larger groups. Some of their most renowned tipples include:
1. CHARDONNAY – Willow Creek Vineyard are truly passionate about their Chardonnays, as shown through their “Chardonnay Project”. Here they asked four groups of staff members to create their own unique flavours, all from the same barrel, inviting Chardonnay lovers to enjoy a unique comparison between four delicious but different tastes. You can also sample their standard tipple, with its perfect blend of intense citrus and almond nuttiness. This is Wine Compass’ favourite Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay
2. PINOT NOIR: Winemaker Geraldine is no stranger to the nuances that go into creating the perfect Pinot Noir, and that is certainly displayed in Willow Creek Vineyard’s offering of the variant. The silky smooth black cherry and chocolate notes are offset perfectly by the complex earthy/beetroot undertones, making for one truly spectacular taste.
3. SPARKLING: Willow Creek Vineyard’s Brut combines both of the aforementioned wines to create the perfect blend. The notes of strawberry and cream, honey and almonds are perfectly subtle, creating the perfect backdrop to this steadily beaded sparkling wine.
