One of our newly discovered favourites and a great fit for groups looking for an enjoyable day out as it combines, relaxed and fun vibes, amazing views a generous Italian feast, good wine and old fashioned genuine hospitality. The managers, Kev and Lou, really know how to treat groups, combining great laughs with attentive service and it really filters through the whole team. It’s also in the lesser known Upper Yarra Valley, which is a lot less touristy (eg no big bus vibe) and a lot more relaxed. It’s such a great sub-region to explore if you have done the more well known parts of the Yarra Valley multiple times.

Wines / Beverages
Killara Estate wines offer something for everyone. Their estate series is the premium offering with more traditional Yarra Valley varieties, Palazzo shows of their Italian varieties and Racers & Rascals is the more entry level offering. For groups it’s great as they have sparkling and sweeter wines in addition to the normal still wines, so tastings are often a crowd pleaser. Beers and other drinks are available for purchase with lunch.
Killara Estate wines
Killara Estate offers really generous Italian set menus for groups. Lots of other wineries and restaurants in the region can sometimes be a little stingy with their meals, but at Killara there is always leftovers. Italian platters and wood-fired pizzas are the highlight and there is a great range of flavours.

This winey is a real showstopper, sweeping views out over the vines from the restaurant and deck are simply amazing. Pending the weather, staff really try to take advantage of the view here, conducting tastings on the deck or in the rotunda near the vines. The dining room is really nice, with a casual feel and there is a really cool indoor/outdoor barrel room with a fire place. In winter there are fireplaces dotted around the property, so it’s an ideal to place to visit in the warmer or cooler months.

What we like
The setting is almost unbeatable, but what we really love is the relaxed vibes, great laughs and amazing service.
What we don’t like
Being in the Upper Yarra Valley it can sometimes be a bit of a trip from the main part of the Yarra Valley, but we have done our best to work this into our itineraries with only a max 20 minute drive between this and other stops on a Wine Compass tour.
