Kellybrook: Something For Everyone
Address: Fulford Road, Wonga Park VIC 3115
Varieties: Port, Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Rose, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Gewurtztraminer, Sparkling Pinot Chardonnay + a range of beers, cider, and Apple Brandy
As the closest Yarra Valley winery to Melbourne, Kellybrook does a great job in transporting visitors to a world entirely independent of the busy CBD. Darren and Farley Kelly founded the rustic but charming estate in 1962, after Darren swapped his accounting boots for farming ones.
Since then, the couple has done a fantastic job in creating a vibrant, fun vineyard which caters for groups large, small, and with all different interests (especially since they don’t just offer wine, but also beer and cider). With a well-equipped outdoor deck and lovely gardens ready to host visitors during the warmer months, it really is a great spot to stop and relax in.

As already mentioned, Kellybrook offers up quite a broad selection of reds, whites, and sparkling varieties, all of which come with a reasonable price tag. That means it’s great for those wanting something a little extra from the Yarra Valley than the usual Chardonnay and Pinot Noir (although they have that covered too).
Or you can venture even further out of the norm and have a sample of their 3 different ciders, or (recently added to the family) 3 beers, all of which are really delicious.
Although Kellybrook isn’t a lunch stop for Wine Compass, they do offer fantastic-looking picnic hampers. If you come back for a visit after doing a tour with us, it might be worth trying one!
Despite being the closest winery between Melbourne and the Yarra Valley, it certainly doesn’t feel like it. In fact, Kellybrook maintains a sense of serene seclusion thanks to its location within a small valley that’s far away from the rest of the Yarra Valley’s tourist strip of vineyards.
The estate has both a beautiful deck and a garden designed to let you take in your picturesque surrounds while you enjoy one (or two) of their many outstanding wines, beers or ciders on offer.
What we like
It’s really refreshing to have a bigger selection of drinks to try, and such a range is certainly not something you’d find at every Yarra Valley vineyard. Coupled with the nice setting and relaxed vibes, and you’ve got yourself an ideal day out that pretty much anyone can enjoy!
What we don’t like
Larger groups tend to flock to Kellybrook, particularly in the late afternoon, so if you have a larger party, it’s definitely better to book in advance
