Rochford has become an iconic part of the Yarra Valley landscape, and not just because of their wines. This expansive property regularly plays host to massive Day On The Green music festivals and gigs, plus offers Segway tours and hot air balloons for keen tourists.
Despite their notoriety, Rochford manages to thwart off any potential garishness through private wine tastings for groups, maintaining a certain level of intimacy that you might not think possible on such a large estate.

With a varied selection and ever-revolving roster of wines on hand, Rochford know how to keep their tastings interesting. As would be expected from such an iconic winery, their reds, whites, and sparkling options are all of great quality, although ranging from entry level to their premium top-shelf collection.
The appointment of a new chef in mid-2016 has seen the food at Rochford Winery’s restaurant taken to the next level. They offer set menus with a choice of entrée and main or main and dessert, from a selection of modern meals.
Rochford is ideally located within easy access of a number of the Yarra Valley’s other renowned wineries. As mentioned, the property is quite expansive, with a huge lawn area that is sometimes reserved for Day On The Green or other festivals.
The restaurant sits up above the lawn and looks out over the breathtaking property, although with so much going on you won’t be able to capture a complete sense of Rochford from just one vantage point.
What we like
Above all, we’re most grateful for the private tastings Rochford offers for groups. Without this, it would be easy to be lost in the throng of tourists that frequent the estate. Since the new chef came on board and the menu was re-vamped the food has become an enjoyable part of our visits here, too.
What we don’t like
Naturally, the touristic aspect of Rochford isn’t really our favourite thing. It’s busy, bustling, and big, and a far cry from our usual favourite boutique establishments that give you that more personal touch.
